When I first got pregnant with Noah I was determined to stay fit and healthy and wear my own underwear for as long as possible. I also wished upon a star for a million dollars and tossed fairy dust into the air.
A crock of shit is a crock of shit no matter how politely you phrase it.
Well, I did wear my own Victoria's Secret Cotton Low-Rise Bikini underwear through about the seventh month. It actually got too tight around my legs, mostly due to the fact that I was eating my weight in Oreo cookies on a weekly basis and my thighs got a wee bit, cellulitey? I highly recommend any low-rise panty option for the pregnant lady. I never found it comfortable to have anything fitting over my belly. Especially being pregnant in the warmer months, the more skin you have open the cooler you will be.
When I realized that I needed to buy larger underwear I went to Target and bought a package of good ole Hanes Her Way cotton undies. You can get a package of 6 for less then $6 and really, are you going for style when you are whale-like in body? The best part is, you don't have to wash these panties in a delicate cycle or care about what pregnancy-related, um, fluids get on them because you can toss them in the garbage when their term is over.
And just how long might that "term of use" be? I choose to keep mine until the post-pregnancy flow subsided which for me was between four and six weeks of annoying pad-wearing light to moderate flow. Alas! My unexpected C-Section had me sporting a rather sensitive lower abdomen with a bold red scar right in the pathway of my cheapo low-rise Hanes elastic band. I actually sent my Aunt out to the store to get me a package of true old-day grannie-panties, the ones that actually do almost reach your nipples. Until the scar healed sufficiently, they were a real blessing. So when you pick up your package of pregnancy underwear you might as well get a grannie-panty package too, just in case. And once you are pad-free, toss those bad boys in the garbage, who needs a reminder of the further bodily-humiliation of post-pregnancy a-sexiness.
Amen.
